My First Internship: A Lesson in Balance and Growth

Allow me to share a story from the early stages of my journey as a junior UX designer. The prospect of my first internship was exhilarating; after all, it marked my initial step into the world of professional design.

Little did I know, it would be a learning experience that would redefine my perspective on both work and personal growth.

Eager to prove myself, I approached the internship with enthusiasm and a determination to showcase my abilities. However, this enthusiasm soon veered into the realm of overconfidence. I found myself making assumptions, skipping questions, and filling gaps in my understanding just to validate my competence.

The drive to prove myself, though well-intentioned, led me to gloss over crucial details and critical clarifications.

Simultaneously juggling another job only compounded the situation. The combination of high expectations and the desire to excel in both roles began to take a toll on me.

Burnout, the unwelcome companion of many ambitious individuals, started knocking at my door.

As I reflect on that period, I realize that my experience mirrors a common pitfall for those venturing into new career paths. The pressure to prove oneself, coupled with the desire to perform exceptionally, can inadvertently push us to assume more than we comprehend.

It's a journey that many of us undertake, often in pursuit of validating our worthiness.
